Lectures on Spiritual Topics

Recorded lectures of Swamiji were aired for 30 minutes on every Monday between 7 and 7.30 pm by the Australian Tamil Broadcasting Corporation (ATBC) radio station for 6 months during 2007 – 2008. Ramanujam Mukundagiri and Poornima Kumarasami, two senior disciples of Swamiji, visited  Australia for a period of 2 to 3 months during 2006, 2007 and 2009.

Lectures by Ramamnujam and Poornima

In 2006, Ramanujam and Poornima came to Australia during August -September and gave several lectures in many residences and public places in Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne. In 2007, Ramanujam and Poornima toured Australia in July-August and gave several public lectures in Sydney, Newcastle, Canberra, Adelaide and Melbourne. In 2009, Poornima alone toured Australia from April – July and gave several public lectures in Sydney, Adelaide and Perth and also visited New Zealand briefly in July to give a few public talks. The response to the public lectures by the Indian Community of Sydney was overwhelming. The lectures were conducted in wide spread suburbs in Sydney to enable people to attend the various lectures. Despite the large distances involved, people still travelled 40 – 80 km to attend these lectures even on week nights. This is indeed a tribute to the oratory capabilities of these two speakers and their articulation of deep, profound spiritual truths with metaphors and day-to-day examples.  Summary of the talks and interviews with Ramanujam and Poornima were featured in newspapers. Ramanujam’s talks on spirituality were telecast by TVS TV channel (UHF 31) in July – August 2007 during his Australian tour.  Ramanujam gave a few live and recorded talks on spirituality and also answered several questions from public on the ATBC Radio. All the public lectures/seminars/workshops were offered free to public.

Teleconference Study Classes on Srimad Bhagavatham

A new initiative launched by Poornima Kumarasami during her Australian tour in 2009 was the Teleconference course in Srimad Bhagavatham. It was a foundation course on Srimad Bhagavatham, expounding the dhyana slokas and important verses and their meaning in the 18 chapters of Canto 1. The course had been run in the United States of America during Poornima’s tour to the States and was a huge success.  Inspired by this accomplishment, the teleconference course was offered to Australian audience in May 2009. There were 60 registrations across ten suburbs in Sydney and the course was delivered by Poornima herself through the media of telephone. The classes were conducted on 12 week days between 8 and 9.30 pm. Phone logins were provided to 10 champions in 10 suburbs which enabled interested people from a suburb to congregate in a place within their suburb instead of travelling to attend the lectures in a public venue. Lecture notes in the form of texts and audio recordings of the slokas (poems) were provided over the internet through a secured log in to GOD website for each student. Based on the value delivered, the Teleconference proved to be a very effective medium of education and it is intended to build on this success in the following years.
